Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly underwent a procedure on Tuesday to address a blood clot in his right shoulder and General Manager Mike Hazen said he does not expect Kelly to pitch again this season.
Kelly had a catheter inserted in his shoulder, which Hazen said was successful in treating the blood clot. But questions remain as to what caused the issue, and Hazen said Kelly is likely to visit with Texas-based specialist Dr. Gregory Pearl to determine if the problem is related to thoracic outlet syndrome.
Thoracic outlet syndrome is a compression of the nerves or blood vessels between the neck and the armpit that can lead to a variety of symptoms, including pain and numbness.
