SAN DIEGO – Third baseman Jake Lamb thought about a trip that began 12 days ago, lasted 10 games and took the Diamondbacks through three cities. Asked how he’d sum it up, he started with a one-word synopsis.
“Long,” Lamb said after the Diamondbacks dropped another game to the San Diego Padres, this one by a score of 4-1 on Thursday night at Petco Park.
The Diamondbacks went 4-6 on the trip. Their pitching staff thrived, particularly the rotation, providing some hope that the Diamondbacks can put last year’s struggles on the mound behind them.
The offense, however, was another matter.
