Ketel Marte’s hit lifts Diamondbacks past Pirates in extras

PITTSBURGH – In the blink of an eye, Ketel Marte went from being excited about delivering the go-ahead hit to furious at himself for running into an inning-ending out. But, while speaking to reporters after the Diamondbacks’ roller-coaster 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night, he flashed a smile.

“I was mad in that moment,” Marte said, “but I’m good (now).”

It was a swing of emotions that fit the night. Patrick Corbin threw about as well as he ever has, tying a career high with 12 strikeouts in a dominant seven scoreless innings. But the Diamondbacks could not find a way to push across a run.
