HOUSTON – A small shard of wood broke off Jon Jay’s bat in the eighth inning on Friday night, and in the moment Jay did not seem to know just what had happened. He stood briefly in the box after his swing, as he would after a foul ball. Then he realized it might be a good idea to run.
