Jake Lamb starts again as Christian Walker gets day off

A day after another aggressive managerial move that seemed to stem from the urgency of a short season, manager Torey Lovullo went the opposite direction with Jake Lamb, giving the slumping infielder a second consecutive start.

Lovullo said he had been looking to give first baseman Christian Walker a day off on the advice of the club’s medical staff, citing both the groin issue that slowed Walker at the end of camp and the upcoming series in Colorado, where the Denver altitude is known to take a toll on bodies.

That opened the door for Lamb, and Lovullo said the back-to-back starts was a chance to try to get the former All-Star going at the plate.
