Fixing the offense again a focus as Diamondbacks offseason begins

Fixing an underperforming offense was again a major topic during the Diamondbacks’ end-of-year briefing with reporters on Tuesday as GM Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo each talked about trying to avoid the prolonged offensive draughts that have plagued them the past three seasons.

After experiencing lengthy blackouts in 2018 and 2019, the Diamondbacks had two such costly stretches this year, first in a 3-8 stretch to open the year, then in a 2-18 skid in the middle of the season. The club had a sub-.200 average and sub-.600 OPS combined during those 31 games.

“Part of that, for me, is our offensive approach,” Hazen said.
