Right-hander Zac Gallen was scratched from his start Monday afternoon due to right forearm discomfort, an alarming development for the Diamondbacks’ best starting pitcher.
Gallen has undergone a battery of tests – an MRI on Sunday followed by an X-ray and a CT scan on Monday – but still does not know the severity of the injury, which has been described as “right lateral forearm soreness.”
Gallen said he first felt the injury while swinging a bat nearly two weeks ago and does not feel it while pitching except when throwing his curveball.
Gallen has rated among the best starting pitchers in the majors since debuting with the Miami Marlins in 2019, the year he was dealt to the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline.
