Ever since the Diamondbacks signed Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas to a $68.5 million deal in early December, people around baseball have speculated about whether Arizona would move outfielder Mark Trumbo. Every time he was asked, General Manager Dave Stewart said no.
That answer was somewhat puzzling, because from the outside, the idea of moving Trumbo made a lot of sense. He was making $6.9 million and due to make more in his final year of arbitration. The Diamondbacks had a glut of young outfielders, and it was unlikely Trumbo and Tomas could occupy the same outfield at the same time.
