With portions of the sports world grinding to a halt due to protests stemming from the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by police in Wisconsin, the Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies chose to play a baseball game on Wednesday night.
As it turned out, it was a highly entertaining one. The Diamondbacks lost, 8-7, despite another frenetic rally in the bottom of the ninth. For the second consecutive night, they left the tying run standing at third base. The loss was their eighth in a row.
After Nick Ahmed struck out to end it for the second time in as many nights, the Diamondbacks did not offer much insight as far as what went into their decision to play.
