Diamondbacks lefty Robbie Ray is entering his sixth full season in the majors, a time in a player’s career when track records tend to trump outsized expectations, a time when a player sort of is who he is.
Perhaps it is time to accept Ray for what he is, a high-strikeout, high-walk pitcher who is often effective but typically only for five innings or so. Perhaps it is time to stop believing he can consistently keep his pitch count in order and work deeper into games. Perhaps it is time to see the value in him in spite of that which he does not do.
