Diamondbacks have ‘no urgency’ for center field help

The Diamondbacks still are not saying how long they’re expecting to be without A.J. Pollock, their talented center fielder who underwent elbow surgery earlier this week, but they’re also not giving the impression they’re in need of reinforcements.

Converted infielder Chris Owings has more than held his own in center field during his first week at the position since childhood, and manager Chip Hale had Owings back in the lineup there on Thursday night, his third start in the season’s first four games. Rookie Socrates Brito, who impressed during spring training, gives them another option at the position, leaving the team comfortable, at least for the time being, with its in-house replacements.
