General Manager Mike Hazen will take a leave of absence, the Diamondbacks announced Friday, and Assistant GM Amiel Sawdaye will oversee the club’s baseball operations department in his place.
Hazen’s wife, Nicole, has been battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer that has a typical life expectancy between one and two years. She was diagnosed last July.
Hazen, who has been the Diamondbacks’ GM since the fall of 2016, will “regularly consult” with Sawdaye during his absence, the club said.
