The moves brought about by last week’s trade deadline probably helped the Diamondbacks more as an organization than as a 2019 playoff contender. But that viewpoint, of course, is subject to change, particularly if they keep winning games like they did on their just-completed homestand.
Still, even after a 6-1, series-clinching win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night, it seems the most reasonable outlook might be to wait and see. This year’s Diamondbacks have had plenty of nice little stretches. They always seem to follow them with stretches that are equal and opposite.
For those eager for narratives to back up the optimism, the deadline itself provided plenty.
