Diamondbacks fall flat, drop another vs. Padres in series finale

At times over the past four days, the Diamondbacks did not take good approaches at the plate and their pitchers did not throw strikes. Their baserunners ran into outs. Even their defense made a costly mistake.

“It ended up being an abomination,” Diamondbacks right-hander Luke Weaver said.

Weaver was talking about his outing in Monday afternoon’s 6-2 loss to the San Diego Padres. It might be a bit strong, but his words could be applied to what happened to the team in general as they dropped three of four to open the year.

Facing a Padres team that could, at long last, be a force in the National League West, the Diamondbacks did not look sharp for the much of the series.
