For the third time this month, the Diamondbacks traded a pricey veteran to a contending team, this time dealing reliever Addison Reed to the New York Mets, a source confirmed on Saturday.
It’s unclear what the Diamondbacks are getting in return or if the deal is mostly about salary relief. Reed is making $4.875 million this year, meaning he is still owed about $1 million the rest of the season.
When the Diamondbacks acquired him from the Chicago White Sox prior to the 2014 season, Reed was expected to provide a stable presence in the ninth inning.
