Chris Owings’ versatility came up big for the Diamondbacks when he filled in for the injured A.J. Pollock in center field early last year. The club is planning to make him even more versatile this season.
Diamondbacks General Manager Mike Hazen said the team has talked to Owings about likely seeing time on the outfield corners during spring training. The thinking is two-fold: It might create opportunities to get his bat in the lineup more often, and would give the Diamondbacks more coverage at those positions in the event of injury.
“I think there’s a lot of versatility on the roster, to be honest with you, and he’s fantastic at it,” Hazen said.
