As he has continued to take a beating on foul balls in recent games, Diamondbacks catcher Stephen Vogt has noticed teammates covering their faces with their gloves.
“I know what that means: It means they’re laughing,” Vogt said. “I’ve had a lot of guys saying, ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t help but laugh.’”
Vogt has been a magnet for foul balls, particularly shots to what he describes as a “sensitive area.” But he said he is feeling good overall, which is a positive considering what happened to him five years ago.
That was when now teammate Ketel Marte, then with the Seattle Mariners, fouled a ball directly off Vogt’s cup.
