SAN FRANCISCO – The season is more than a week old and the Diamondbacks’ bullpen roles have yet to be defined. Or, at least, they haven’t been defined beyond this: There is closer Fernando Rodney and then there are six other guys.
Of those six, five have been credited with at least one hold, and from afar it seems manager Torey Lovullo has been willing to use them in an entirely unrestricted manner, not beholden to specific roles.
Lovullo also has asked his relievers to go more than one inning on several occasions, an indication that he might be a little unconventional in the way he navigates the back end of games.
