Diamondbacks blow past Phillies, off to best start in franchise history

Robbie Ray shook his head in disgust. He knew what he had just done and he was scolding himself for it.

The Diamondbacks starting pitcher had walked weak-hitting Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp with two outs and nobody on in the fourth inning Saturday night and then, to top it off, he grooved a 95 mph first-pitch fastball right over the plate to Phillies pitcher Ben Lively.

Lively connected for his first major-league home run and the two-run blast gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead. Ray wasn’t sure what he was mad at the most – having to basically pitch around and walk Rupp after falling behind to the guy batting .
