SAN FRANCISCO – The Diamondbacks’ Jarrod Dyson raced back on the deep fly ball, and as he approached the warning track, the Giants’ Andrew McCutchen slowed his jog toward first base. Most of the time, when Dyson is in center and a ball is hit near him, it becomes an out. McCutchen seemed to assume this would be the case.
But the ball sailed over Dyson’s head, McCutchen ended up at second, and, minutes later, he raced across home plate with the game-winning run, sending the Diamondbacks to a 5-4 loss in the rubber match of a three-game set at AT&T Park on Wednesday afternoon.
