Diamondbacks avoid arbitration with three players

The Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with right-hander Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly and left-hander Caleb Smith, agreeing to one-year deals with each.

According to a source, Weaver will receive $1.95 million, Kelly $1.7 million and Smith $1.465 million. They were the club’s only arbitration-eligible players for this season.

Kelly and Weaver came to the Diamondbacks as part of the Paul Goldschmidt trade. Both performed well in their first season with the club but fell off last year. Kelly hit just .221 with a .264 on-base last season; Weaver posted a 6.58 ERA in 12 starts.

The Diamondbacks landed Smith at the trade deadline last year, acquiring him from the Miami Marlins as part of the Starling Marte trade.
