Prospect Pavin Smith, whom the Diamondbacks brought to the majors for the first time on Thursday, says he has made adjustments at the plate this summer at the team’s alternate site that have allowed him to drive the ball with more power.
“It’s weird that no one really knows,” he said, “except the people that are there.”
Games at the club’s alternate site, Salt River Fields, are only five innings. They are not open to the public nor are results or statistics made available. But Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said Smith has “hit quite a few home runs down there” as he learned to better “leverage his swing and lift the baseball.
