D-Backs' Hale wants strong finish from players

DENVER – With the Diamondbacks entering the last month of the season – that is, other than two final games at the start of October – manager Chip Hale has some goals in mind for his players beyond playing the kind of competitive style they displayed this week in San Francisco.

“Each individual player needs to finish strong,” Hale said.

The first two names that came to Hale’s mind, outfielder Yasmany Tomas and third baseman Jake Lamb, both have had strong stretches at times this season but also have endured prolonged struggles.

“Tomas and Lamb have put up some numbers that are kind of eye-opening,” Hale said, “but they need to continue that into September and early October so we leave this season with a really good taste about where we’re going next year.
