COVID tests at D-Backs’ facility return multiple positives

One player on the Diamondbacks’ 40-man roster, “several” minor leaguers and one minor league coach turned up positive for COVID-19 in tests administered over the past week, according to a team official.

The club did not release the identities or provide concrete numbers, but a source said that more than 70 of the 80-plus tests came back negative. It said in a statement all of the positive tests came from individuals who were and remain asymptomatic.

The statement said the team opted to test more than 80 members of the organization after Major League Baseball shuttered training facilities league-wide late last week, a move that came after a handful of clubs had players and personnel test positive.
