Corbin Martin’s struggles for Diamondbacks lead to another demotion to minors

A day after watching him fail to escape the first inning in his latest poor performance, the Diamondbacks optioned right-hander Corbin Martin to Triple-A Reno, a move that represents another step back for a pitcher whom the organization expected to be a building block in the rotation.

Martin was retired only one of the seven batters he faced against the San Diego Padres on Friday night, serving up back-to-back homers to the first two batters of the game before allowing another hit, two walks and a hit by pitch.

“We made the decision that there needed to be a little more consistency,” manager Torey Lovullo said.
