PITTSBURGH – The Diamondbacks seem to agree that the pitches that struck Jean Segura and Nick Ahmed above the shoulders on Tuesday night were not thrown there on purpose. But manager Chip Hale doesn’t think that leaves the Pittsburgh Pirates without blame.
“I don’t think the kid meant to do it,” Hale said Wednesday, referring to Pirates reliever Arquimedes Caminero, who hit Segura on the side of the head and Ahmed on the chin with pitches in consecutive innings.
“When you put a guy out there that doesn’t have control in that area and you’re trying to pitch in, it’s not something that we can have here.
