Rather than pitch in a big-league game in the afternoon, Diamondbacks left-hander Madison Bumgarner was on the back fields on Sunday morning. It was a better setting in which to reinvent himself.
That might be a bit of a stretch, but Bumgarner was doing things against a lineup of mostly Los Angeles Angels minor leaguers that he had never really done before — at least not against hitters wearing opposing uniforms.
Bumgarner was quick-pitching — cutting off his motion and delivering pitches in an expedited manner. He also was dropping down, firing pitches from a lower arm angle.
