Whether there was a genuine feeling of optimism, or just a bit of a dead cat bounce. the reasonable way in which the team finished off the regular season schedule seems to have given reason for hope. After going 3-10 over the first half of September, they ended relatively strong. The D-back took eight of the last twelve games, and even got a couple of (much-needed) decent outings from Madison Bumgarner. It was still a thoroughly disappointing season. But finishing with a record of 25-35 when you had a stretch where you were 2-18, is almost bordering on the impressive.
