Arizona Diamondbacks first-base coach Dave McKay on mend after dugout fall

Diamondbacks first-base coach Dave McKay suffered a lacerated spleen and a broken rib after slipping in the dugout at Scottsdale Stadium earlier this week, manager Torey Lovullo said on Friday.

McKay is away from the team and likely will remain so for at least another week, Lovullo said, adding that he expects McKay to be ready for the start of the season.

Lovullo said McKay slipped on a dugout step and fell into the bench in the visitors’ dugout on Monday. “He bounced up so quickly that nobody really saw it,” Lovullo said. “He made us think he was OK.
