Alex Young emerges as another concern festers in Diamondbacks’ rotation

Late last month, as the Diamondbacks were preparing to give left-hander Alex Young a crack at the fifth starter’s job, manager Torey Lovullo remembers the club projecting that that spot would come up 12 or 13 times the rest of the year.

“We were trying to figure out, how (can we) get eight quality starts? Six quality starts?” Lovullo said. “We were breaking it down. (Young has) given us three up to this point. I’ll take nine more. Those are my expectations.”

But as it’s happened, while Young has begun to ease the Diamondbacks’ concerns about that area of the rotation, another spot has bubbled to the surface as a significant concern.
