Training day: Tobias Rieder excited to play after offseason surgery

Coyotes winger Tobias Rieder exchanged crutches for skates only a month before training camp started after undergoing offseason ankle surgery, but the 24-year-old is confident he’ll be ready to play when the team opens the season Oct. 5 against the Ducks.

“On the ice, it actually feels pretty normal,” Rieder said of his right ankle. “It’s just running off the ice it still feels a little weird, but there’s no pain or anything.”

Rieder was injured while representing Germany at the IIHF World Championships in May; a teammate fell on his twisted foot in front of the net during a battle, tearing a ligament in his ankle.
