The Coyotes are getting close to filling out new head coach Rick Tocchet's staff with assistants, and John MacLean and Scott Allen are "very strong candidates," a source said Tuesday.
While nothing is finalized at this point, the source said, hires could be made this week.
When he was introduced as the Coyotes' next coach, Tocchet said he wanted to recreate the culture he had in Pittsburgh as an assistant alongside coach Mike Sullivan. Each coach had autonomy, and Tocchet wants assistants to challenge him.
Tocchet has been leading the search and said last week he'd been talking to a lot of people and was really interested in a few.
