The returnees, new faces and next class of rookies were all included on the Coyotes’ season-opening roster once it was finalized Tuesday.
But what was missing from the group was a captain.
Arizona will not name a captain to start the season and instead will appoint three alternate captains with those players likely being revealed Wednesday, coach Rick Tocchet said.
“The process of the captaincy, I’m not ready for that yet,” Tocchet said. “I think it’s important that players just worry about hockey. That thing will sort itself out.”
Defensemen Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson will be alternate captains, a source said, with centers Derek Stepan and Brad Richardson and defenseman Alex Goligoski possibilities for the third position.
