Perspective key for Coyotes' Doan amid slump

Only minutes after it all ended – the third-period rally, a photo-finish in overtime and end-to-end action courtesy the shootout – captain Shane Doan, stationed in front of his stall in the Coyotes dressing room Friday evening, couldn’t pinpoint how many games he’d gone between goals.

“I honestly didn’t know what game we were at as a team,” Doan said Saturday when asked again. “I knew I scored the first game, and I knew I hadn’t scored until last night. It’d been whatever – 18 games, 17, 18 games. It’d been a while.”

Before he got his stick on an Anthony DeAngelo shot, tipping the puck past Oilers goalie Cam Talbot to help extend the game to extra time where the Coyotes eventually capped off their comeback 3-2 in a shootout, Doan had played 17 games without a tally – a funk that probably isn't easy to keep a log of as it continues to grow.
