There hasn’t been much of an offseason for John Chayka.
After a scouting trip to southeastern Russia, the 28-year-old Coyotes president of hockey operations and general manager arrived in Toronto on Tuesday night to prepare for Saturday's NHL draft lottery.
Chayka, whose Coyotes did not pick until No. 23 last year, has a chance to pick anywhere from first to six overall at the NHL draft on June 22 in Dallas. Saturday’s lottery will determine their first-round position.
There is a lottery held for the first three picks in the draft, and all non-playoff teams are eligible to pick as high as first overall.
