The final seconds ticked off the clock and the Coyotes were headed for a confidence-boosting win over the Colorado Avalanche Thursday night at Gila River Arena.
They'd throttled the team with the NHL's best record, keeping them from consistently getting inside for close range shots on goal in the third period. And as Jakob Chychrun went to the net in the defensive zone to help his goaltender close out the game, Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog cross-checked Chychrun in the back.
The Coyotes defenseman immediately took exception and went after Landeskog. Meanwhile, Arizona's Dysin Mayo raised his stick and caught Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnnon in the mouth.
