Injury to Alex Galchenyuk could mean serious trouble for the Coyotes' center position

Remember all that center depth the Coyotes had entering training camp? Well, a swift epidemic of injuries seems to have thinned it out quite a bit.

Head coach Rick Tocchet informed the media on Friday that newly acquired center Alex Galchenyuk has a lower-body injury and will be evaluated by the Coyotes’ medical team next week.

It’s unclear when or how Galchenyuk injured himself, although he did not practice with the team Wednesday. His absence was due to what a team official called a “maintenance day,” but the revelation of what could be a serious injury alters the interpretation of that.
