Game Day: Evaluating Arizona Coyotes' power-play struggles

In Coyotes center Derek Stepan’s opinion, simply generating scoring chances on the power play is not good enough. Arizona’s power play has been plagued with a recent inability to score on the man-advantage.

This was the case in Wednesday’s 3-1 home loss to the San Jose Sharks, where the Coyotes were 0-for-2 on the power play and also failed to score in 39 seconds of a 5-on-3 advantage. As a result, Arizona saw its three-game win streak snapped at the hands of the stingy Sharks defense.

“We had the power plays and the 5-on-3 and we would’ve liked to capitalize on those,” Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said after Wednesday’s loss.
