On Saturday, goaltending ruled the day at Gila River Arena.
In a matchup of two former teammates, it was Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist who reigned supreme over Coyotes backstop Antti Raanta as Arizona suffered a 2-1 shootout loss on Saturday.
Coyotes center Derek Stepan had a chance to keep his team alive in the shootout, but he was thwarted by Lundqvist to seal the game. Stepan spent the first seven seasons of his career with New York before coming to the Coyotes in a June trade.
“He’s the king for good reason,” Stepan said of Lundqvist, who stopped 37 shots through overtime and all three shootout attempts.
