Elite junior hockey league slated to start in 2023-24; Phoenix team possible

A junior hockey league with similarities to the United States Hockey League is coming for players in the western United States.

West Coast Hockey Sports and Entertainment announced the league on Tuesday morning. The soon-to-be-named league plans to start play in 2023-24 with six to 12 teams, with a mission to "support the continued growth of youth hockey and expansion of the game into surging sports and entertainment markets," it was announced in a statement.

The USHL, based in the Midwest, is an amateur league that provides a pathway to college hockey. The West Coast league hopes to do the same.
