The Coyotes traded veteran center Derek Stepan to the Ottawa Senators late Saturday night in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Stepan, who played three seasons with Arizona and was an alternate captain, appeared in 224 games for the Coyotes, totaling 39 goals, 80 assists and 56 penalty minutes. Last season he had 28 points in 70 games and added a goal and four assists in the postseason.
The trade nets the Coyotes a high draft pick, something the club values with new general manager Bill Armstrong and his team of scouts and talent evaluators.
