Coyotes announce contract extensions for Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Niklas Hjalmarsson

The Coyotes announced new contracts for defensemen Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson on Sunday, the first day players were eligible to sign contract extensions with their current teams.

Both Ekman-Larsson and Hjalmarsson were set to have their current contracts expire after the 2018-19 season. Both extensions will kick in prior to the 2019-20 campaign.

Ekman-Larsson signed an eight-year extension, per the Coyotes. The deal is worth $66 million with an annual average value of $8.25 million, according to multiple NHL sources.

"This is where I want to be," Ekman-Larsson said in a release.
