Community gathers at Phoenix Raceway as Coyotes host second annual 'Skatin' for Leighton'

Over a year after passing away at the age of 9 after a courageous battle with cancer, Coyotes Ring of Honor member Leighton Accardo continues to impact the Phoenix community.

Hundreds gathered at Phoenix Raceway Sunday to commemorate the legacy of the girl who captured the hearts of many during the second annual "Skatin’ for Leighton" event hosted by the Arizona Coyotes.

The Coyotes and Phoenix Children’s teamed up and invited participants to roller skate, run or walk the racetrack and enjoy activities in the infield. The Coyotes aimed to raise $149,000 (Leighton's hockey jersey number was 49) to benefit the Leighton Accardo Memorial Fund that financially supports youth female hockey players.
