Avalanche prevail in hard-fought battle, beat Coyotes 4-3

Even though instant replay almost erased two of their goals, Devon Toews netted the game-winning goal for the Colorado Avalanche as they defeated the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 at Ball Arena.

Toews, Ross Colton, Nathan MacKinnon and Jack Johnson all scored for the Avalanche (34-18-4). Alexandar Georgiev made 28 saves in the win.

Matt Dumba, Logan Cooley and Lawson Crouse had the goals for the Coyotes (23-27-4) who have lost nine-straight games. Karel Vejmelka stopped 34 shots.

After Bowen Byram dumped the puck into the Coyotes’ defensive zone, Miles Wood won a board battle before finding Colton open in front to score, giving the Avalanche a 1-0 lead at 4:10 of the first period.
