SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Coyotes will wrap their season series with the Sharks in two weeks, but wiping a potential Stanley Cup contender off their schedule might not be good news as these battles have certainly flattered the team.
Arizona has yet to lose to San Jose in regulation, a trend the Coyotes preserved Saturday with a 3-2 shootout win at SAP Center – perhaps the most entertaining and engaging clash so far.
Winger Brendan Perlini and Radim Vrbata scored in the shootout while goalie Mike Smith stopped two of the Sharks' three attempts, resolving a competitive slugfest that was intense almost from the get-go – including in 3-on-3 overtime where the Coyotes survived a Sharks' power play and goalie Martin Jones flashed his glove on a shot from winger Tobias Rieder late in the extra period off a 2-on-1 rush.
