Arizona Coyotes set to open season against San Jose Sharks January 14 at Gila River Arena

The Arizona Coyotes have a date for their first game of the just-announced NHL season.

It's January 14 against the San Jose Sharks, which is of interest because the Sharks are set to start their season operating out of Scottsdale due to COVID-19-related restrictions in the Bay Area.

Coyotes president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez announced the game date and opponent on a video conference call Monday afternoon. He added that fans will be allowed inside Gila River Arena for home games, but only a few.

"We will be beginning the season with a limited capacity of seating," Gutierrez said.
