As Coyotes defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson leaped onto the ice for the sixth round of a shootout in Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers, fans and players alike gave a double take.
What was Hjalmarsson, known as a stay-at-home defenseman, doing on the ice in a shootout?
“I’ve seen him (score shootout goals) in practice,” Coyotes winger Nick Cousins said. “I’ve got to give him some credit because he’s definitely a guy you probably wouldn’t have a book on.”
Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said that Hjalmarsson told him on the bench that he had a move that was guaranteed to work.
