Arizona Coyotes assistant general manager Darcy Regier leaves team

Arizona Coyotes senior vice president and assistant general manager Darcy Regier has left the team, the team confirmed.

The long-time Buffalo GM had been working as an assistant to GM Don Maloney since July 2014. Sources familiar with the Coyotes told ESPN that it simply didn't work out with Regier and the team.

Regier was fired in November 2013 after 17 seasons in Buffalo, with the Sabres in a tailspin and foundering at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Buffalo finished last in the NHL with a 21-51-10 record in 2013-14.

The Coyotes, still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Pacific Division, have two other assistant GMs on staff; Chris O'Hearn and John Chayka.
