Antti Raanta makes solid Coyotes debut in overtime loss to Golden Knights

The Coyotes didn't debut their new starting goalie until the second game of the season, but Antti Raanta looked to be worth the wait.

In his first game as a No. 1 in the NHL after spending four seasons as a backup, Raanta shined with his 42 saves, a major reason why the Coyotes banked a point in a 2-1 overtime loss Saturday to the Vegas Golden Knights in their home opener at Gila River Arena.

“He was unbelievable,” winger Tobias Rieder said. “He held us in that game.”

Raanta played as advertised. Acquired in a June trade with the Rangers along with center Derek Stepan, he was square to the puck and poised.
