Washington NFL team undergoing ‘thorough review’ of nickname as pressure to change mounts

The future of the nickname for Washington’s NFL franchise seems to be more in flux than at any time in the team’s 89-year history.

Team owner Dan Snyder, who has steadfastly and even defiantly refused to consider removing the name “Redskins” — a term considered by many in and out of the Native American community as racist — opened the door a crack to the possibility on Friday, promising a “thorough review.”
